Kirsty's Story
Sadly, my husband died, aged 30, from Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) when I was 9 weeks pregnant. Needing support to get through such a difficult time, I turned to SABN, who have provided me with regular counselling for almost a year.
My counsellor has been brilliant. She has been very understanding and really good at listening, especially at poignant moments like the birth of my son and my husband’s first death anniversary. She gives me strategies to cope with my grief and we have built up a strong rapport. It has been particularly lovely for my 6 month old son to meet her too!
I enjoy coming to the sessions as she is someone impartial as I did not want to burden family or friends too much. Without these regular sessions, provided free, I would not have coped as well as I have.
My son, my mother and I attended the Remembrance Service held at St Albans Cathedral. We found the service to be moving and were amazed at how many people are dealing with losing someone they love. It was a lovely, peaceful and well thought-out service.
I hope that anyone else who has lost someone they love can get the support and guidance they need from SABN, a worthwhile charity which I intend to support through fund-raising. Thank you all very much for the hard work and dedication that you have shown towards me! |
